Liposuction Forum - Do I Need Stage 2 Garment After Surgery?
« on: April 21, 2011, 01:09:37 PM »
After Liposuction Compression Garments for Women and After Liposuction Compression Garments for Men come in 2 stages. The Stage 1 Liposuction Garments help control bruising and swelling. They only work when they are compressing the tissues. The main feature of the stage 1 garment, it that the zippers and hook make them easier and safer to get on and off right after surgery.

We prefer to fit each of our patients with their garments before surgery and then use techniques that have Minimal Swelling and Bruising. So our patients' garments do not tend to get too loose. If they did, then a change of garment might be needed.

The stage 2 garment has no zipper or hooks, tends to apply more pressure, and is not as safe to wear on early healing tissues. They look better under clothing without the zipper. These garments are also for support of healing tissues, but the main value is how they can help scars. Scars that evolve under pressure do much better than scars that do not have pressure on them. These second stage garments come in different lengths and styles. Some of our women want them shorter so they can wear shorts, others do not want a seam to show through their dress and prefer a longer style.

So it is a function of comfort and how far you are trying to push the scar evolution. Remember, we are talking about more than just surface scars, but also how the tissue moves.

Hope this helps,
