Weight Loss Forum - Pannus Reduction 5'5" 317#
« on: October 17, 2011, 12:51:19 AM »
Dear Dr. Michael Bermant,
I am 52 years old and have a pannus type hanging belly 24 ft, touching my hips and knees and it awful to walk and the muscle aches..
Tried talking to my doctor, always telling me to diet and exercise..meanwhile my belly grow longer every couple months.
My weight is 317# and I am 5ft 5inches.  I hate looking like this..
Could you suggest a plastic surgeon that lives in the Tampa Bay or Pasco area in Florida??
How can I exercise with this heavy hang?? Can't do any physical therapy..
Please help me... Doctors I've spoken to don't seem to care and brush me off..
Lived this way for 10 years..and belly is growing longer..
I have diabetes insulin taking and pills, hi blood pressure, sleep apnea..
I do heal pretty good..

This should not be construed as medical advice. I am a retired Board Certified Plastic Surgeon.

Have you checked your BMI Body Mass Index? At 5 feet 5 inches and 317 pounds that is Super Obese, beyond the deadly Morbidly Obese. Any surgery on an individual can be extremely risky.

Plastic Surgery is better After Weight Loss. The losing weight is the coarse tool, and Plastic Surgery better reserved for refinement.

Panniculectomy or Pannus Reduction is not a good starting point in most situations.

Weight loss can be a difficult road. Plastic Surgery was not the way to start and I suggested seeking help from weight loss specialists when I was offering an opinion before I retired.

Hope this helps,
